Happy Memorial Day!

Probably one of my 2nd favorite holidays after the 4th of July is Memorial Day. I love the long weekend, cookouts, and all of the American flags and tributes to our armed services.

Here are some shots I took around the house today with Alex's camera.

As I mentioned before, Alex and I live along Victory Memorial Drive. It gets its name from all of the memorial markers for all of the local residents that served in WWII. These markers sit at the base of each tree along the drive. On Memorial Day they place American flags at each marker.

It is amazing to see the flags lined up as far as the eye can see on both sides of the parkway.

1 in 7 Lack Access to Clean Water

It may not come as a surprise to many but while the rest of the world celebrates Earth Day in April – at Aveda – we celebrate Earth Month. It is a month filled with fundraising activities to raise money for the Global Greengrants Fund which supplies money and resources to countries in need of clean water.

Our Earth Month activities culminate with the "Walk for Water" on the actual Earth Day. The "Walk for Water" is a 6km walk to symbolize the distance women must walk in order to get clean water for their families.

In Minneapolis, our walk starts at the Aveda Institute with a "pep rally." We chant our mission statement and do some sort of wellness activity.

Of course, we must all wear the same thing – our Earth Month t-shirts. What can I say – I work at Aveda.

We get to walk around, beside and over the Mississippi River. At the end of the walk, we are asked to lift a pickle bucket filled with water. It is supposed to represent the amount of water the women carry the 6km. Let's just say I could barely pick it up off the ground.

It was an absolutely beautiful day for the "Walk for Water" and even better day to be out of the office.

Seriously?

We are expected to receive up to one inch of snow tonight. I guess I need to break out my winter parka and start up the fireplace.

Let's just say I am not amused.
